A group of Russians in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia's fifth-largest city, have encountered trouble after surfing through the streets at high speed on a carpet attached to the back of a car.

"A resident of the Sormovsky region carried his friends on a textile product attached to his car in the form of a carpet," police said, according to a statement on the local Ministry of Internal Affairs website.

Nizhny Novgorod police said Thursday that the 24-year-old filmer was fined 1,000 rubles (£12) for violating transportation rules.

While the video was shot on January 5, the police discovered it on January 25.
