Addicted to fentanyl: how a drug from China is fuelling America’s opioid crisis

Overdoses linked to fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50 times stronger than heroin, killed nearly 30,000 people in the United States in 2017. Authorities say most fentanyl sold in the state of Pennsylvania can be traced back to China. We spoke to Anja Lesniak, a 21-year-old woman living in an area considered a“ground zeros” of America’s opioid crisis – Kensington, in the Pennsylvanian city of Philadelphia – about her fight against fentanyl addiction.
