Student calls bomb hoax on easyJet flight to stop parents' visit

LYON, FRANCE — An easyJet flight from Lyon was diverted after a student pulled a bomb hoax to avoid seeing his folks, reports the Independent.
EasyJet flight EZY4319 was en route to Rennes on January 18 when a bomb threat was made via an anonymous call.
The plane, which was carrying 159 passengers, was forced to turn around and land back at Lyon, where it landed safely and was met by the fire brigade and the cops.
The bomb threat turned out to be bogus, and police identified the caller as a 23-year-old student from Rennes whose parents were on the diverted flight. The guy was apparently trying to stop his parents from coming to visit him, and resorted to pretty stupid means to get them off his back.
Needless to say, it didn't end well. He's been arrested by police and charged with "false news compromising the safety of an aircraft in flight."
He's looking at up to five years in the slammer if he's found guilty, and probably a whole lotta visits from mom and dad.
