China is strongly urging the United States to drop its request that Canada extradites a top executive of its tech giant Huawei.
Many fear the conflict might reignite trade tensions between the two superpowers.
Kim Hyo-sun tells us more.
The U.S. has requested Canada to formally extradite Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou,... who is currently detained in Canada,... after being released on bail last month.
The U.S. Justice Department stressed it will continue to seek the extradition and it will submit the formal request by the end of this month,... the deadline set by the U.S.-Canada Extradition Treaty.
China is demanding the U.S. stop the move,... saying Washington is suppressing China's high-tech companies.

"In fact, it is a kind of technological bullying behavior. And its real purpose is very clear to everyone - to do anything possible to suppress China's high-tech enterprises and curb China's legitimate right to development.

Many are concerned the case may exacerbate Washington-Beijing relations,... which has improved with the trade negotiations following the simmering trade tensions between the two countries.
Meanwhile,... Huawei Chairman Liang Hua addressed the Davos Forum on Tuesday,... explaining that the company could pull out of partnerships in hostile countries and move to countries that welcome the company.
