Digital Trends reports that as the United States government shut down enters day 22, problems are beginning to surface in the world of internet security. According to a report by Netcraft, more than 80 Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificates that are used by .gov websites have expired and have not been renewed. TLS certificates are crucial to a secure internet, giving sites permission to use encrypted communication and authenticate the identity of the certificate holder.
