북중정상회담, 트럼프 침묵의 의미는? - 우정엽 박사 대담

To further dissect Kim's trip to Beijing, we have with us Dr. Woo Jung-yeop, a research fellow from the Sejong Institute.
- According to reports, Kim held his summit meeting with Xi for about an hour on Tuesday. They also had dinner together along with their wives. How do you think the first day went and what do you think they would have discussed?
- Does this trip suggest that a North Korea-U.S. summit is definitely on track?
- Kim is reported to have visited a pharmaceutical factory in Beijing's economic and technology development zone. What does that tell us about Kim's objectives for this trip?
- On New Year's Day, Kim Jong-un gave his annual New Year's address, where he said if the U.S. continues its sanctions and pressure campaign on North Korea, the regime would have no choice but to find a, quote, "new way". Is Kim perhaps signalling that their relationship with China is this 'new way'?
- U.S. President Donald Trump and his administration have yet to react to Kim's visit. Why do you think that is?
- Concurrently in Beijing, U.S. officials are also meeting with Chinese officials to discuss the ongoing trade dispute between the two superpowers. Trump has previously accused Xi Jinping of using the situation with North Korea as a bargaining chip in the trade dispute. Do you Trump has any justification and do you think Kim's visit would have any effect on the current trade talks?
- Now that Kim has met with Xi, we are looking out for a high-level meeting between North Korea and the U.S., possibly between North Korean official Kim Yong-chol and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to take place next perhaps to prepare for the next Kim-Trump summit. Do you think we can make a guess of the possible timeline? A high-level meeting first in the next few weeks, and then a Kim-Trump summit in the next couple of months?
- From this North Korea-China summit, we have concluded that it could signal towards a North Korea-U.S. summit, and that in turn could point towards the next inter-Korean summit, specifically Kim's trip to Seoul promised last year. With that in mind, is there anything South Korea and President Moon can do at this stage? What can his role be at this current time?
