According to SF Gate, the College Football Championship dashed ESPN's hopes of high overnight ratings.
Although the national championship between the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide proved to be an exciting, though lopsided game; the ratings took a dive as Clemson's lead expanded.
In metered markets across the US, the game pulled in a 14.6 rating, but it suffered a 13-percent drop during the broadcast.
Earlier on, Clemson and Alabama were trading scores, but that changed by halftime.
