"Women in Cannabis" Conference in Downtown LA Proves Women are Leading the Industry

At the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, women gathered to talk about pot. The event was aptly called "Women in Cannabis," hosted by Limone Creative and The Rind, and featured various educational panels on cannabis culture and policy, a sound bath, and a number of curated vendors, including artisan pipes by Elevate Jane and CBD chocolate by Calivolve. The motivation behind the conference was to normalize cannabis, says Limone founder/CEO Bianca Monica — to make it as socially acceptable as a glass of wine — while celebrating the women who are working hard to build and steer the direction of the industry.

In fact, 53 percent of women (as opposed to 42 percent of men) regularly consume cannabis — often citing reasons like pain management or relaxation — while women comprise 27 percent of executives in the cannabis industry overall (in contrast to 22 percent in other industries). However, though women are leading the cannabis movement, they still must overcome the hurdles facing any woman in any industry — that 27 percent of executives is actually down from 36 percent in 2015. So as women adjust to the changing market and influx of new players drawn to the Green Rush, conferences like these help women support each other, and band together to lead the industry, equitably, into the future.
