PERTH, AUSTRALIA — A new list of 20 airlines recognized as the safest in the world has been released by Airline Ratings.com, a website that tracks 405 airlines.
Qantas was ranked as the safest airline. The Australian airline carries nearly 50 million passengers per year and has had a flawless safety record for 64 years, with no accidents resulting in fatalities or damage that rendered an aircraft beyond repair.
Four U.S. carriers made the list: United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines.
Other airlines on the list included British Airways, Lufthansa, KLM, Cathay Pacific, Taiwan's Eva Air, All Nippon Airways and Singapore Airlines.
In a statement, Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com said, "Qantas has been the lead airline in virtually every major operational safety advancement over the past 60 years and has not had a fatality in the jet era."
Thomas also gave a special mention to Hawaiian Airlines and Finnair for having "perfect records in the jet era."
