Why Are Floppy Eared Dogs Considered Friendlier?

According to MNN.com, "You see a German shepherd and a golden retriever at a park. Which one do you want to pet? A lot of people might perceive the German shepherd — with its pointy, upright ears — But the floppy-eared retriever seems friendly and sweet and just asking for a cuddle." Still, why do we thank this way? Scientist say upright ears represent less domesticated species. Charles Darwin says as dog's became more domesticated their ears seemed to flop, because they no longer needed to be erect to catch every passing sound. He called this phenomenon domestication syndrome.
