Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan held a press conference in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram over the recent flurry of protests after two women successfully entered the Sabarimala temple yesterday. The Chief Minister blamed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for causing violence in the state over the Sabarimla issue. He said, “It is government’s responsibility to give protection to women. The government has fulfilled this constitutional responsibility. Sangh Parivar is trying to turn Sabarimala into a clash zone.” CM Vijayan further added, “7 police vehicles, 79 KSRTC buses destroyed and 39 police personnel attacked, till now. Most of the persons attacked were women. Women media persons were also attacked.” Two women had defied a centuries-old ban on entering the temple in Kerala on January 02, sparking protests. Temple was shut for “purification” rituals after the women visited. After which the temple had re-opened.
