National Assembly Speaker says 2019 is last opportunity for political reform

South Korea's National Assembly Speaker says 2019 will be an opportunity to reform the way the country conducts its elections and chooses its representatives.
At his New Year's press conference on Thursday,... Moon Hee-sang emphasized that now is the opportune moment as there aren't any elections in 2019.
He said it's appropriate for assembly seats to be distributed depending on the votes the parties get,... rather than the current winner-takes-all system.
Although the speaker said it's not something he can force through himself,... he called on rival parties to come together as it is what the people want.
On North Korea,... Moon said the regime is at an important crossroads,... and the process shouldn't be rushed.
The speaker also said rival parties need to put the public ahead of their political interests,... for the assembly to regain the people's trust.
