Indian ‘rathole’ miners trapped for weeks

15 Indian miners have been trapped underground for more than two weeks after water from a river poured into an illegal mine at Ksan village in Meghalaya, India. Indian Navy divers entered the coal pit on December 30, 2018, but could not get very far as the shaft was flooded. Workers have used heavy-duty machines to pump water out of the pit. Some families of the trapped miners say delays are to blame for the rescue effort’s lack of success.
