Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is "open to dialogue with the United States" in a holiday message to President Trump.
The Kremlin released the message Sunday on behalf of Putin who sent out a series of new year greetings to different heads of state and government.
The full statement to Trump reads: "In a Christmas and New Year greeting message to President of the United States of America Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia-US relations are the most important factor behind ensuring strategic stability and international security, and reaffirmed that Russia is open to dialogue with the United States on the most extensive agenda."
CNN notes, the two leaders had been slated to meet in November around the G20 summit in Argentina, but the U.S. president pulled out, citing Russia's treatment of the Ukraine.
On the other hand, some critics have viewed Trump's controversial decision to pull troops out of Syria as a boon to Russia's rising influence in the Middle East.
