Japan to Resume Commercial Whale Hunting Next Year

Japan to Resume Commercial Whale Hunting Next Year The move comes after Japan said it would leave the International Whaling Commission, the organization that manages
whale conservation around the globe. It has been a member of the IWC since 1951. Commercial whaling was banned in 1986 after it left several species near extinction. Japan's announcement was expected, but it has still been met with intense criticism from conservation groups. Starting in July, Japan says it will limit commercial
whaling to its own territorial waters. The country adds it will stop hunting whales
around the southern hemisphere.
