Italy: A military court sentenced former Nazi captain Erich Priebke and former SS Major Karl Haas to life imprisonment for his participation in the worst massacre ever committed in Italy during World War II. Priebke, 84, was responsible for cross-checking the names of the victims on a list when they arrived at the cave and admitted killing two people. The former captain acknowledged his participation in the massacre but insisted that he carried out orders under penalty of death. At the end of the session, Erich Priebke considered the trial a revenge.
