Green 'Christmas Comet'
Is Visible This Month 46P/Wirtanen got the
nickname because of
its greenish glow. It will be close
enough to view with
the naked eye
for several days. Paul Chodas, NASA's JPL, via NPR Wirtanen placed in the top ten
of Earth's modern "comet
close encounters." The small comet
doesn't have
much of a tail, Wirtanen is
currently close to
the constellation Orion. The University of Maryland
has set up a website for amateur
astronomers tracking the comet.
