EPA Exempts Exxon Mobil Refinery From Fuel Standard Laws

According to Reuters, the EPA granted a financial hardship waiver to Exxon Mobil.
The wavier specifically exempts a refinery from biofuel laws.
The Renewable Fuel Standard requires oil producers to blend blend biofuels, like ethanol, into their fuel products.
But the law offers an exemption for refineries that produce less than 75,000 barrels of fuel a day.
That exemption only applies to refineries that would suffer financial hardship by following compliance standards.
Since Exxon's refinery in Billings, Montana produced 60,000 barrels a day for the 2017 compliance period, the facility was eligible for the waiver.
