Robin Thicke and Pharrell Ordered to Pay $5M to Marvin Gaye's Family

Musicians Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams were sued by Gaye's estate in 2015 for copyright infringement
for their 2013 song, "Blurred Lines." Gaye's family claimed "Blurred Lines"
was too similar to Marvin Gaye's
1977 single, "Got to Give It Up." According to 'Billboard,' the
musicians were originally ordered
to pay $7 million to Gaye's family, but now the amount has been reduced to $4.98 million. According to the ruling, Gaye's family will begin to receive 50% of "Blurred Lines" royalties
as well. Williams denounced the ruling. Pharrell Williams, to 'Access Hollywood' According to the 'Associated Press,'
rapper T.I., who made a brief cameo
on the song, was also found guilty. The verdict comes as an even harder blow for Thicke, who has struggled with substance abuse, divorced his wife, Paula Patton, and lost his home last month in Malibu, California, due to
the wildfires.
