Wimbledon is one out of the 4 major Grand Slam. It is also the oldest and most prestigious tournament in the world. Every year the tournament unfolds in London, England.
Wimbledon is the sole grand slam that is played on grass. During the tournament the grass is cut to a height of exactly 0,34 inch to ensure the best conditions for players!
Renowned champions in this grand slam include the legendary names of: Björn Borg, Steffi Graf, and Pete Sampras. The grass surface has proved to be a happy hunting ground for Mr PeRFect aka Roger Federer, as he has won a record eight Wimbledon championships.
No tennis whites, no service - as white is the official dress code for Wimbledon! The champion in the ladies category are awarded a dish which resembles Venus Rosewater dish. Whereas, in the gentleman category the victorious is awarded the Wimbledon trophy.
The overall prize money for 2018 Wimbledon championships stands at £34 million which is an increase of £2.4m to 2017, and the winners from both category bag £2.25m each.
