Act Protections The Trump administration is expected to unveil a plan that would weaken federal clean water rules. The Clean Water Act is designed to protect millions of acres of wetlands and streams from pesticide runoffs and other pollutants. The original safeguards were put in place during the administration of President George H.W. Bush.
