Snowstorm Drops Historic Amounts of Snow on Mid-Atlantic and Southeast 'Winter Storm Diego' left double-digit snowfalls in areas stretching from northwest South Carolina to east-central Virginia. 'The Washington Post' says that more than a dozen locations reported at least a
foot and a half of snow. Parts of North Carolina encountered as much snow in this one storm as they typically receive in an entire winter. Over the weekend, just over 11 inches piled up in Asheville, North Carolina, its third-biggest December snow
event on record. The city of Roanoke, Virginia, had its snowiest December day ever on
Sunday with 15 inches. Neighboring city Richmond also received over a foot of snow, despite forecasters saying it would get just
a few inches.
