Firefighters rescued a driver trapped in a semi-trailer hanging off the edge of a Chinese motorway after a five-vehicle pile-up.

In the video, filmed in Shangluo City in northern Shaanxi Province on December 7, a fireman tied by security ropes hangs in mid-air to save a driver stuck in the cabin of a semi-trailer.

According to local reports, five vehicles crashed in a pile-up on the G65 Baotou-Maoming Expressway.

Among them a 30-ton semi-trailer crashed through the railings on the side of the motorway and threw a passenger out to the bottom of the bridge, also trapping the driver in the cabin still hanging off the motorway.

Firefighters rescued the seriously injured passenger from beneath the bridge first, then freed the trapped driver from the vehicle after more than an hour.

Fortunately, the two people injured are both in stable conditions now.
