A complete change from the usual this time.

Having been invited to Italy by my friend Alessio, who I fished with on the Avon last autumn (video 32), I was keen to join him on the river Tiber in Rome.

However, the weather had other plans and the river was unfishable due to the heavy current and its accompanying debris.

Alessio suggested that instead we should head off to his favourite carp lake to attempt to catch one of its wild residents. This huge piece of water, located in an extinct volcanic crater was home to some leviathans.

The weather was extremely hot, reaching 38 degrees on some days so our hopes were not high, but we would spend 36 hours on the bank trying....
