NYPD to Start Using Drones This new program follows an unmanned aerial vehicle pilot program the NYPD ended in 2011. NYPD plans to use a collection of
14 drones throughout the city. The team will use three different types of unmanned devices, 1 DJI Inspire 1, two DJI M210 RTK drones and 11 DJI Mavic Pros. The devices will be used for search and rescue missions, crime scene documentation, hazmat incidents and large events like concerts and hostage situations. James O'Neill, Police Commissioner, via statement The department claims they won’t be used for
warrantless surveillance.
