A man in North Dakota has pleaded guilty to charges over his plan to overturn President Trump's limousine with a forklift he had stolen, reports BuzzFeed News.
As U.S. Assistant State's Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell said of the suspect, Gregory Lee Leingang, "The intent was to basically try to get to the limo, flip the limo and get to the president and he wanted to kill the president."
According to the Bismarck Tribune, the incident occurred on September 6, 2017, when Trump was slated to give a speech at a local refinery.
Leingang is said to have stolen the forklift before the president's scheduled arrival time and driven it to the motorcade route, but he eventually got stuck in a gated area and fled.
The 42-year-old was eventually taken into police custody, where he admitted to the plan.
BuzzFeed reports, Leingang, who is said to have mental illness issues, is expected to be released in 20 years.
