Trump Again Lashes Out At General Motors, Says Company Is 'Very Counter' To Overall Booming US Economy
  • 5 years ago
President Trump on Thursday again went after General Motors on Twitter.

President Trump on Thursday again slammed General Motors over its recent restructuring announcement.
"General Motors is very counter to what other auto, and other, companies are doing. Big Steel is opening and renovating plants all over the country. Auto companies are pouring into the U.S., including BMW, which just announced a major new plant. The U.S.A. is booming!" Trump tweeted.
The company announced that it will be closing up to four plants in the U.S. and laying off as many as 15,000 employees.
In other tweets earlier in the week, Trump threatened to cut subsidies in response to the news.
"Very disappointed with General Motors and their CEO, Mary Barra, for closing plants in Ohio, Michigan and Maryland. Nothing being closed in Mexico & China. The U.S. saved General Motors, and this is the THANKS we get!" Trump wrote.
He continued: "We are now looking at cutting all @GM subsidies, including for electric cars. General Motors made a big China bet years ago when they built plants there (and in Mexico) - don't think that bet is going to pay off. I am here to protect America's Workers!"
