According to Reuters, the United Arab Emirates sentenced a British academic to a life sentence for spying.
Matthew Hedges was arrested at Dubai International Airport in May on the suspicion of espionage.
The 31-year-old spent six months in solitary confinement, before he was released on bail last month.
Prosecutors said that Hedges confessed to spying for the British government, however, the academic and his wife have repeatedly denied the allegations.
UAE officials stated Hedge was treated fairly by their constitution, adding that he was provided with translators for signing documents.
A statement from the Gulf state’s foreign ministry said Hedge was not asked to sign documents he could not understand.
