Democrats will soon take control of the House of Representatives, and sixteen of them have indicated they are opposed to again elevating Nancy Pelosi to House speaker, reports Politico. They recently signed a letter indicating their intentions and distributed it among their Democratic colleagues, notes the Washington Post. According to the publication, in addition to that group, there are five Democrats who have made verbal pledges to not give Pelosi their votes.  At this time, the only apparent possible competition Pelosi faces for the position is Representative Marcia Fudge of Ohio, who has yet to make a decision on her candidacy.
Meanwhile, President Trump has weighed in on the issue via Twitter.
"I can get Nancy Pelosi as many votes as she wants in order for her to be Speaker of the House. She deserves this victory, she has earned it - but there are those in her party who are trying to take it away. She will win!" Trump tweeted Saturday.
