The US Treasury Department on Thursday announced sanctions against seventeen Saudi officials identified as being involved in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

The US Treasury Department on Thursday announced sanctions against seventeen Saudi officials identified as being involved in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, reports ABC News. The department said in a release: "These individuals who targeted and brutally killed a journalist who resided and worked in the United States must face consequences for their actions. The United States continues to diligently work to ascertain all of the facts and will hold accountable each of those we find responsible in order to achieve justice for Khashoggi's fiancée, children, and the family he leaves behind."
Those named by the Treasury as being responsible are the same individuals who have been arrested by the Saudi government.  According to the Washington Post, investigators in Saudi Arabia said they found no evidence that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had any prior knowledge of the plan to kill Khashoggi, though officials in many other countries have noted that is highly unlikely.
The Post notes that the journalist "was killed on Oct. 2, soon after entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents he needed to remarry."
