One, very special occasion that takes place in the Beit Knesset
is the Bar Mitzvah of our sons.

In this rite of passage, a boy is called to read from the Torah
before the community for the first time.
Synch: The Bar-Mitzvah was a very, very special thing because at that moment, you actually become a grown up, and when you become grown up in our culture, it means you're going to face all the community, you will be able for the first time to read the Torah, in front of all the people in the synagogue which is a very, very important and responsible thing. You don't want to mess up. Your parents are sitting over there and they are listening and you need to do it in a very good way so that they have the honor and of course, the honor that you have in front of God.

From this point on, the young adult can now join with other men
as an equal, to discuss Torah Law.

Many believe that it was this kind of debate that young Jesus was having
with the teachers, when Mary and Joseph found him in the Temple,
impressing them with his wisdom -- despite his tender age.
