'Suu Kyi no longer symbol of hope': Amnesty revokes top honour

Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi was stripped of the Ambassador of Conscience Award, which was conferred to her by Amnesty International in 2009. On Monday, Amnesty International said she’s no longer a symbol of hope. Suu Kyi has been blamed for doing precious little for the Rohingya minority, 7 lakh of whom have been driven out of Myanmar and thousands more killed. The United Nations has called the violence against the Rohingyas an act of genocide. Amnesty said it had told Suu Kyi her award was being revoked. The 1991 Nobel Peace Prize winner has yet to react officially.
