My smartphone and me: story of a rescuer in rebel-held Syria

This year the number of smartphone users across the globe is expected to top 3 billion, little more than a decade after Apple's gamechanging iPhone first went on sale and transformed the way people interact with their phones. In war-torn Syria, a member of the White Helmets uses his smartphone to document the work of this network of first responders who rescue wounded in the aftermath of air strikes, shelling or blasts in rebel-held territory, but also to let his family know he's okay every time he risks his life.
