China sets sights on ultra-fast train ala Hyperloop

ZHUHAI, CHINA — China plans to develop next-generation vehicles similar to Elon Musk's Hyperloop.
Reuters reports that Chinese automaker Geely has signed a deal with the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp. to build a network of ultra-fast trains.
The proposed system will use magnetic levitation to allow the trains to float inches above the rail tracks, which eliminates ground friction and increases speed. Like the Hyperloop, the trains will be propelled through vacuum tubes to reduce air resistance.
Though not technically supersonic, the trains will travel faster than conventional ones at speeds of up to 1,000 kph, with an aim to reach 4,000 kph in the future.
