Fire Brigades Union chief highlights increase in attacks

Attacks on firefighters doing their job have increased by a quarter in the past year, according to their trade union. The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) said there were nearly 1,000 incidents involving an attack on firefighters in England, an increase of just under 200 on the previous year. The union’s general secretary Matt Wrack said it was “shocking” that firefighters “going about their duty” were subject to verbal and physical attacks and called for “education” and “community engagement” to put an end to it.
