Over 90% of Children Are Breathing Toxic Air A new report by the World Health Organization has revealed that 93% of children breathe air so polluted it can cause serious
health problems. In 2016, an estimated 600,000 children died from lower respiratory infections caused by toxic air. Air pollution threatens the health of children under 5 and causes about 1 in 10 deaths among this demographic. Toxic air impacts cognition and can lead to asthma and cancer in children. The problem is especially severe in India. Peak crop-burning season coupled with the festival of Diwali create thick smog over
the city. Delhi is the second-most polluted major city in the world after Lahore, Pakistan. Dr. Maria Neira, Director of the Department of Public Health, via CNN The WHO promotes clean cooking and heating, greener transport and energy-efficient housing to combat air pollution.
