Shifting gears now.
Orchids are one of the most popular types of flower in Korea.
And in some good news for lovers of the flower,... local researchers have developed a new variety which stays in bloom for much longer.
Park Se-young has more.
With beautiful pink flowers and a delicate fragrance, Pinky Beauty is a new orchid variety developed by the Agricultural Research and Extension Services.
The researchers first crossbred the Doritis and Kingidium breeds, then matched the resulting hybrid with Aerides.
The new variety of orchid blooms from the first ten days of June, and unlike other varieties, its flowers last for about 34 days.
With the soft scent of Aerides, Pinky Beauty is ideal for homes and offices.
To develop the new species, the researchers have repeatedly bred and raised orchids since 2007.
They applied for protection for the new variety of orchid in August with plans to propagate the new species at farms.

"With the scent of Aerides and shorter stalks, it will be of high ornamental value."

The development of the new variety is expected to reduce royalties for imported orchids and serve as a new source of income for farmers.
