When a published scientific paper is found to contain errors (or lies), it is retracted. Now, a new searchable database features more than 18,000 of such retracted papers. According to Science Magazine, the database features papers as far back as the 1970s. A partial analysis of the papers reveals some interesting findings. For instance, nations with smaller scientific communities appear to have a bigger problem with retractions. And relatively few authors are responsible for a disproportionate number of retractions.
