Tourists at the Cittadella watched the French army retreating, after a staunch rebellion by the Gozitans, led by Archpriest Saverio Cassar. The biggest re-enactment event in Malta and Gozo came to an end today, marking 220 years since the French invasion, and Gozo's upheaval that gave the island almost 2 years of autonomous rule, between 1798-1800. Great event, well done to all the re-enactors!
