Delhi’s air quality continues to worsen having now reached at hazardous level in many parts of the city. Authorities have warned that it may further deteriorate in the next couple of days as stubble burning continues and sale of firecrackers are back. Delhi is facing the same problems year after year. With govt waking up to the smoke in October and people choking, this year also, the government has made little effort to curb the sale of ear-splitting, firecrackers that explode through Diwali night. The smoke from them shrouds New Delhi in a haze that can linger for days as wind speeds drop in the cooler weather, adding to pollution are factor like burning of crop residue, vehicle emissions and industrial gases.
