Comey Says Trump Is 'Dimming' The Light Of American Democracy

James Comey slammed President Trump on Twitter Saturday.

James Comey has blasted President Trump and the Republican party for "dimming" America's 'shining light' of democracy.
The former FBI director tweeted Saturday: "The United States should be a shining light for the world, modeling a democracy that values truth, respects free press, protects human rights, and stands against murderers, oppression, and bigotry.  Trump and the Republican Party are dimming that light."
His comment comes on the heels of a New York Times report that says: "President Trump broke with his own intelligence agencies on Friday, appearing to accept Saudi Arabia's explanation that the journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed by accident during a fistfight."
However, the piece continues, "United States' spy agencies are increasingly convinced that he was assassinated on high-level orders from the Saudi royal court."
The Times speculates that the president's relationship with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's key role in the administration's Middle East approach, and a massive arms deal with the kingdom could be factors in Trump's reluctance to challenge Khashoggi's death.
Comey has been an outspoken critic of the president since being fired by him in May 2017.
A few months ago on July 16, the former FBI director tweeted: "This was the day an American president stood on foreign soil next to a murderous lying thug and refused to back his own country.  Patriots need to stand up and reject the behavior of this president."
Comey was referring to a summit in Helsinki where Trump appeared with Russian President Vladimir Putin and appeared to accept Russia's denial about meddling in US elections.
