Sarah Sanders' Tweet Mocking Hillary Clinton May Have Violated Hatch Act
  • 6 years ago
Sarah Sanders posted a controversial tweet about Hillary Clinton.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is getting called out for possibly violating the Hatch Act, notes Bustle.
The controversy began on Friday when she used her official press secretary Twitter account to comment on Daily Caller's coverage of a Politico story about Hillary Clinton possibly running for president again.
Sanders wrote in response: "Christmas coming early this year?"
To some, her dig was a political act conducted by a federal official in the workplace which is what the Hatch act aims to prohibit.
As former Obama administration ethics chief Norm Eisen told Newsweek, in part: "I do think that the tweet raises the Hatch Act question...the president is a professed candidate who has raised over $100 million in campaign donations and a member of his administration should not be talking about that upcoming race."
Critics have also pointed out that Sanders appears to have violated the act in a separate incident last week when she tweeted a picture of herself and Kanye West from her government account.
In the image, West is wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat.
