Nevada State Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Las Vegas Pauite Tribe honor Sarah Winnemucca. Sarah Winnemucca was one of the most influential Native American women in American history. She was a Northern Nevada Paiute, Indian princess, author, educator, interpreter, and activist for Native American rights. The tribe celebrated her day by sharing their native Paiute traditional songs, dances and drumming.
