Massive landslide in southwest China

A massive landslide struck the border area between Sichuan province and the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China on October 11. Over 24,000 people were evacuated. A vast barrier lake was formed as the mudflow blocked the Jinsha (Yangtze) River. Several villages along the river were affected – with roads flooded and power cuts – as the lake was discharged.
