Hola desde Argentina !!! Un hermoso día cálido con brisas frescas!
Its business as usual for #TeamSamoaYOG2018.
Everyone is training and going through their final preparations as we count down to competition time.
Competition starts for us on the 12th with Jil Walters in the Ranking Competition for Archery. This will be followed by Rugby 7s & Weightlifting kicking off on Saturday, 13th Oct and Boxing to start on Sunday 14th.
In the past couple of days our boxers and lifter visited the Performance Accelerator in the village. The specialists on site are all in the field of Sports Science & Medicine, a field that is needed in Samoa if we are to take better care and prepare our athletes, physically and mentally.
The Rugby 7s team are fortunate as they have access to the Strength & Conditioning coaches in the SRU High Performance Unit.
Yesterday, management spent the morning filming Lesila whilst going through her weightlifting training.
The boxers spent their morning at the stadium doing Heavy Bag sessions and pads session in the ring to wrap up their afternoon session.
The boxers are in their tapering off period in preparation of the Sunday competition.
Today was the first chance to visit the Rugby 7s venue. What is usually an hour and a bit ride turned out to be a 2 hour drive, after being lost a number of times.
The sightseeing was reminiscent of Europe. Google Maps is only as good as the destination address you give it :)
The rugby team is all well and fit, fired up and it was a pleasure watching them on the field today. Here is a team that really gels.
Besides the rugby skills, there are other skillsets with this team, acting, singing, dancing, engaging with others and a great sense of humor!
Our Oceania family has connected and pledged to support each other where-ever possible and to provide the cheering squads when available.!!
Wishing our #OceaniaTeam all the very best and we await our turn to be tested!
