Residents marked the Mid-Autumn Festival with lanterns and traditional festivities at a Chinese market in Chonburi, located south of Bangkok, on September 24.

The ritual, also known as the Moon Festival and Harvest Moon Festival, is celebrated mainly in Chinese and Vietnamese communities.

Celebrations began on September 24 when the full moon was present, an important symbol of worship for the Chinese.

Organiser Chonburi Governor Pakarathorn Thienchai remarked on the popularity of cultural tourism, stating that the event was "very energetic".

Communities around the world celebrate the occasion by lighting paper lanterns.
