Trump Rejects Official Puerto Rico Hurricane Death Toll, Says Democrats Want To Make Him 'Look As Bad As Possible'

President Trump on Thursday posted another tweet on the hurricane relief effort in Puerto Rico.

President Trump on Thursday accused Puerto Rico and Democrats of falsely reporting 3,000 Hurricane Maria-related deaths. "3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico," he tweeted. "When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000."  "This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico," Trump also noted. "If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list. Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico!"  Notably, Puerto Rico recently increased its official hurricane death toll from 64 to 2,975, a number based on a study by George Washington University.
Trump's tweets came days after he called his administration's response to hurricanes in Puerto Rico "an incredible, unsung success."
