Gas stations run out of fuel as residents stock up ahead of Florence landfall

Gas stations across the Carolinas faced shortages as residents stocked up ahead of Hurricane Florence's landfall.

This video, filmed on the evening of September 12, shows a Shell station out of gas.

Local fuel station finding app GasBuddy showed that 11 percent of stations in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, were out of gas, and in Wilmington, North Carolina, 10.5 percent of stations were out.

Authorities lowered Florence to a Category 3 hurricane earlier in the day, with wind speeds recording at around 115 mph, but state that the storm is still on a path that will put millions of people at risk and could potentially jump to a Category 5 overnight.

States of emergency have been declared in Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia as residents braced for the worst of the storm.
