China asks WTO for sanctions in U.S. trade dispute
  • 6 years ago
China will seek permission from the World Trade Organization next week to impose trade sanctions on the United States.
The request comes amid Washington's non-compliance with a ruling,.. in a dispute over U.S. dumping duties that Beijing initiated in 2013.
Watchers say the request is likely to lead to years of legal wrangling.
China will seek authorization at a special meeting of the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body next Friday.
Beijing's request comes amid escalating trade tensions between the two sides, with President Trump saying last week that he was "ready to go" on more tariffs on Chinese goods "if he wants."
