US gov responds to Tomo on Syria, yet more YouTube channels gone
  • 6 years ago
YouTube removed multiple Syria news channels — including some listed on the U.S. Treasury Department sanctions list — following a series of TomoNews reports last week on the Assad regime's use of U.S. social media platforms.

We reached out to Google, YouTube's parent company, and the U.S. Treasury Department for comment before we published. They didn't come back to us by press time, but on Friday the Treasury did.

"Treasury does not comment on investigations or possible enforcement actions, including to confirm whether one exists," a Treasury Department spokesperson told TomoNews in an emailed statement. "However, generally speaking, U.S. persons are prohibited from engaging in most transactions involving Syria or the government of Syria unless authorized or exempt."

Google have yet to reply to our request for comment.
